35 YEARS OF KEEPING AUSTRALIA SAFE
35 Years of Keeping Australia Safe
29th of May 1991 through to 2026, Uniform Safety Signs is marking 35 years in business, and it’s worth pausing to reflect on what that actually means.
Uniform Safety Signs started in business in 1991 out of a garage in Glenroy, in Melbourne’s north. No factory, no fleet, no team. Just a clear conviction that Australian industry deserved better quality safety signage, and a willingness to build something from scratch to deliver it.
Thirty-five years later, that garage has become a purpose-built manufacturing facility in Thomastown. The business that started with one person has grown into a team serving four distinct market sectors; traffic management, civil construction, council infrastructure, and a national distributor network across every major state in Australia.
What 35 years actually looks like
It looks like major infrastructure. The Metro Tunnel. The M80. Barwon Heads Road. The Australian Open. The Formula 1 Grand Prix. ANZAC Day. Residential estates. Council depots. Highways. Worksites. Wherever Australians are being kept safe, USS signage has been part of that story.
It looks like family ownership maintained across generations. Terry, Scott, Richard, and the broader McMurdo family are now running it with the same accountability to customers and the same standard of product that defined the business from day one.
It looks like deliberate, steady growth. Every move, from Glenroy to Coburg, Coburg to Campbellfield, Campbellfield to Thomastown, has been earned through performance..
Where we go from here
The move to Thomastown last year was the biggest step in our history. Double the manufacturing capacity. Greater capability across our full product range. A platform built for the next phase of growth, including a serious national push into multiple states.
Traffic management is one of our fastest growing categories. Civil construction is expanding rapidly and our distributor network is deepening. And our commitment to the standard of service this industry deserves remains unchanged; fast response, reliable delivery, and people you can actually reach when it matters.
Thirty-five years in, we are more invested in this industry than ever.
To every customer, supplier, and partner who has been part of this journey, thank you. You have shaped what USS is, and what it’s becoming.
The next chapter has already started.
